If you haven’t had an opportunity to read Part 1 of this series, you might want to read it before moving forward.
You probably remember from my first TSA post that my daughter is had a run in with TSA in the DFW airport regarding no photo I.D. Well it turns out that one CAN in fact use secondary identification but in order to do so, one must undergo a tad bit more scrutiny.
On our way back from Las Vegas, we arrived at the airport with plenty of time for ID issues and thank goodness we did! The young guy who was taking tickets didn’t know what to do with a birth certificate and social security card, so he had us step aside and wait for his supervisor. (Story of our lives.) The supervisor was a very nice lady, who told us that they could indeed use secondary identification, but unfortunately they would have to do a search of Caitlin’s bags and she would have to undergo a pat down. Caitlin was more concerned they were going to mess up the strategic packing of her carry-on bag. The lady told her that everything except her purse was mine. She reminded her of that twice! I guess a cute, skinny girl with Buddy Holly glasses must not pose too much of a security threat. Besides, the bag was still going through the scanner. By the time I made it through the checkpoint, another lady had Caitlin off to the side explaining what she was going to do. I later asked if she was embarrassed and she said ‘Heck no! I felt bad ass!” The lady was very nice and did ask Caitlin if she wanted to go off to a private area with her mom and Caitlin said it wasn’t necessary. Once Caitlin passed her test, we were finally on our way home!
Lesson learned…if you don’t have a photo I.D., GET one! Or….go to Costco. 😉
