It seems that I’m doing a lot of experimenting lately. Last weekend I decided to give canning tomatoes a try. Hey! I’ve got a garden! And I’m certain those two tomato plants are going to yield me enough fruit to feed my family of 5 for the entire year, right? My daughter, Megan came home yesterday afternoon, looked at me and said, “You look tired.” I took it to mean, “You look like crap.” Of course I was wearing my favorite pj pants and the same shirt I had worn the day before…But why judge? Anyway, she then asks, “Are you sick?” I said, “Not really. Well maybe in the head. But not physically.” Later that evening, while working in the yard, my husband tells me how nice I had looked the day before and how proud he was to take me out that night. And I say, “Are you hinting that I’m not dressed for an night out on the town again tonight?” At this point, I had added brown loafers with mismatched socks to my killer outfit. He mumbled something about how I looked fine for staying home. No one appreciates my fashion sense! I really wish it had been cold enough to add my fluffy green bathrobe. I have even washed and it smells good now.
I have been wanting a garden for a very long time. I’ve tried everything from tilling and planting straight in the ground to the more elaborate square foot raised beds. Apparently my raised beds wasn’t quite high enough because my dogs could run through them with ease. Last year I began reading about no till or ‘lasagna’ gardens. I decided this was the way to go!
